NYSC Confirms Death Of Orphaned Corp Member In Rivers Rerun Election.

      
The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced the death of one of the corps member killed in Rivers state over the weekend during the rivers rerun election that was held on Saturday 19th March 2016. His name was given as Okonta Dumebi Samuel (RV/15B/5539) 


Corps member Okonta Samuel, who until his death served at Government College Secondary  School, Ukpeliede, was shot dead by some unknown gunmen in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers state. The murder of the patriotic young man, who was also an orphan, was described by NYSC as primitive, barbaric, and ungodly; which should be strongly condemned by all well-meaning Nigerians.

Dumebi an indigene of Illa in Delta state was serving as an ad-hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC at Ahoada west Local Government area when he was attacked by gunmen who tried to disturb conduct of the elections alongside two of his colleagues while the two other corps members were reported to have fled the scene Dumebi was shot by the gunmen.

The NYSC press release also stated that another corps member who was declared missing after the heavy gun battle between security agents and gunmen returned safely to the NYSC office whose name was given as Anana Aniekan Udoetor.


The number of deaths recorded during the rerun elections which INEC has declared inconclusive according to eye witnesses in the state suggests no fewer than seven persons were killed in various parts of the state. The Police however said only four people were killed while about 20 people were arrested for various offences during the rerun  exercise that was marred by violence across all the local government of the state.
