The Governor of Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir Ahmad ElRufai
and his deputy Arc. Bantex were reported to have exchanged slaps over arguments
on certain issues regarding the state during the week. According to inside
sources in the government house the bone of contention which resulted into
altercation between the two was the civil service reform which the Governor was
planning to carry out to sack some top civil servant in which the deputy
governor was said to be uncomfortable with as it may affect 70% of senior civil
servants in the southern Kaduna part of the state where the deputy governor
hales from.

At the cabinet meeting, the deputy governor
spoke his mind and inform governor El-rufai he is not in support of his
decision to sack several senior staff in the civil service reform exercise, he
equivocally said that he cannot withstand the backlash as a result of that
action. The deputy Governor was quoted
as saying “I cannot go home and face my people, they will stone me” The
governor had insisted that the decision was irrevocable and in the best
interest of the state but the deputy insists on equality as his constituency
already feels marginalized by the actions of the state Governor since
inception.
The conversation was reported to
have become heated between the Governor and his Deputy and words were traded openly
between both leading to Governor El-rufai dishing out a slap on the face of his
deputy. The deputy governor was reported to have immediately taken his
seat and told the governor that since having arguments and counter views has
earned him a slap, the right thing to do was to let everyone know and resign as
the deputy governor of the state. El-rufai then said Bantex cannot resign and
continued with the meeting.
The Deputy governor who participated
as the meeting continued however surprised most cabinet members present as the
meeting ended when he was said to have caught Governor El-rufai unawares and
landed him a slap and pinned him down before landing another slap on the
governor while the cabinet members restrained him from further beating the
governor up.
Governor El-rufai has been a subject
of attack from the people of Kaduna of recent with his various anti people
policies including the gag on religious activities especially to the Christian
community of the state and the house demolition exercised he is currently
carrying out which has come under intense attack and opposition from the people
who feel the governor is clearly as anti Christian individual and making the
state inhabitable for low income earners who had labored all their lives to
build houses that he is planning to demolition like he did while he was the FCT
Minister under President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.
