The detained Ekiti State House of Assembly lawmaker Mr Afolabi Akanni has this evening in Abuja been released. He was immediately secretely taken to a private hospital for treatment.
Hon. Afolabi Akanni was picked up by the Directorate of State Security DSS in Ado Ekiti almost 3 weeks ago and taken to Abuja office of DSS where he was detained. He was said to have taken ill at the detention with no proper medical care. Afolabi was reported to have said he was treated for Malaria in detention but was still very sick. He was quoted to have said "I am not well, I am very very Sick" when h was released from the detention of DSS this evening in Abuja before he was taken to an hospital.
Akanni is a member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly representing Efon Alaye Constituency at the state legislative chambers. He was ordered to be released by an high Court sitting in Ado Ekiti 4 days after he was picked but the DSS refused to allow him leave claiming they did not get a copy of the court judgement and directive.
It is expected that Hon. Akanni will be allowed to return back to his legislative duties as soon as he gets well.
