The national caucus of the All Progressive Party (APC) has declared that there will be no vacancy in
the presidency in 2019. Speaking to news men after the caucus members of the
party comprising of the party chairman top party leaders, serving and ex
governors of the party, the leadership of the national assembly some selected
members of the party executives at the national and state levels and the
president and vice president declared that those interested in the presidency
in 2019 should shelve their plans for now and concentrate on uniting the party.
The party is basically endorsing the second term bid of the
incumbent president Muhammadu Buhari as stated by the party chairman chief John
Odigie Oyegun who made this known to pressmen after the caucus meeting ended on
Tuesday night. He further said the second term of President Buhari would
stabilize the polity in the face of what members described as the 16 yearss of
misrule and rot inherited from the Peoples Democratic Party PDP.
At the long meeting which was held behind closed doors till
the late night on Tuesday one of the issues agreed on was that President Buhari
should be given opportunity to seek a second even though they feel its still
very early in the present administration to start talking about second term
less than a year in office, it was believed that the issue was raised as a way
pf restingrestiveness among some party leaders who have been divided over their
various aspritions for 2019. Notable amongst these are Alhaji Atiku Abubakar
former vice president and Alhaji Mohammed Rabiu Kwankaso immediate past governor of Kano state.
Also speaking on the controversies behind his office as
National Chairman being under threat by some members calling for his
resignation. Oyegun said there no truth
about such insinuation, he dismissed reports of pressures on him to resign his
office saying he is not aware that his office is under threat and maintained
that as the chairman of the party he led the party to the state house adding
that it amazes him and occasionally annoys him hearing or reading about such
insinuation noting that a committee has been constituted to address and resolve
all the crises in the party. He therefore pleaded for patience and time on the
part of Nigerians that the Buhari led government would come on full stream when
the budget 2016 is passed by the Senate.
