Policemen Drafted For Rivers State Rerun Election Escaped Death On Their Way To Port Harcourt

No fewer than 100 Policemen travelling to Rivers state from Akure Ondo state capital for the Rivers state rerun elections escaped what would have been a tragedy today Friday 18th March as the truck they were travelling in had a terrible head on collision with another truck conveying Cows near Akala- Olu, Rivers state.

The officers who were on the way to Rivers state for the State's rerun elections taking place tomorrow 19th March sustained varying degrees of injuries but no live was lost, however some of the cows in the other truck died in the accident.

Recalled that Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the rerun elections into state Assembly and National assembly for tomorrow. The state Government on Wednesday announced a work free day for Thursday and Friday today to allow people travel to their towns and villages to take part in the elections which is filled with tension and apprehension especially with the major parties taking part in the elections The All Progressive Congress (APC) and People Democratic Party (PDP) had been trading words over various issues regarding the conduct of a peaceful elections.

The security situation in Rivers state is worrisome bearing in mind three Officers of the Nigeria army were killed in a gun battle with gun men. Also today, a party agent of one of the two contending political parties was caught with Army and police uniform this afternoon.
