Edo Assembly Members Impeached Speaker, House Turned Into Battle Ground. (Video)

The Speaker of the Edo House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Edoro, has been impeached by 16 of the 24 members of the State Assembly on Tuesday. Reports says that in his place, one Honourable Elizabeth Ativie was elected by the lawmakers as the assembly’s first female speaker.

The impeachment followed a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Folly Ogedemgbe of the APC representing Owan East and seconded by Patrick Illuobe PDP – Esan-North East.
According to Hon. Ogedemgbe “This is an impeachment notice signed by 16 out of 24 members that the speaker Victor Edoroh and his deputy, are hereby impeached,’’ Mr. Ogedemgbe said during the house sitting on Tuesday. Shortly after moving the motion,  Ogedemgbe nominated Patrick Illuobe to preside over the election for the post of Speaker and deputy speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly.

Ms. Elizabeth Ativie’s name was submitted as a nominee for speaker by Victor Assen APC-Owan-East, while Justin Okonobo APC-Igueben was nominated as deputy speaker by Henry Okhuobo APC-Orhionmwon. The two were subsequently approved to lead the House by the lawmakers.

The proceedings at the assembly later  degenerated into chaos as suspected thugs allegedly brought in by the impeached speaker Victor Edoro invaded the chamber as Ms. Ativie took her seat. She was ordered to get up from the seat and was forcefully pushed out of the seat by the impeached speaker. The thugs were seen jumping the overflow into the Assembly hall and carried the mace to its position from the entourage of the impeached speaker.
The ugly situation made security operatives to immediately take over control of the assembly premises to forestall break down of law and order as staff of the assembly scampered for safety.
