Afeni Shakur Davis, the mother of Late Hip Hop Legend and rapper Tupac Amaru Shakur, has died on Monday Night May 2nd 2016 in Sausalito Northern California. She was aged 69.
Afeni Shakur was pronounced dead in a local hospital in Sausalito California around 10.30pm monday night from complications arising from heart attack.
She was reported to have started feeling sick when she was in a company of friends around 9.30 and was taken to Marin General Hosoital in Sausalito and was treated for about an hour before she was pronounced dead at about 10.30pm.
Born Alice Faye Williams in Lumberton North Carolina in 1947, she was a member of the Black Panthers together with Tupac's father Billy Garland and served 11 months in prison with other members of the party charged with conspiracy to bomb multiple busy landmark in New York City. She was pregnant with Tupac at this time.
She served as her own defence attorney and was acquitted of multiple counts. She was released from prison in May 1971 shortly before her son’s birth in June 1971. Alice Faye Willliams changed her name to Afeni Shakur when she joined the Black Panther Party in New York and was a strong and dedicated member of the party.
She was the late Tupac's inspiration and reason for her son's Dear Mama Song released in 1995 where the late rapper dedicated the song to his mother amongst which he rapped "Aint no woman alive that could take my mama place. Sent me to school scared to go home I was a fool with the big boys breaking all the rules. And there is no way I can pay you back but the plan is to show you that i understand. You are appreciated."
Afeni Shakur took over the estate of her late son after he was shot and killed on 7 September 1996 and was reported to earn her about $1m each year. She co executive produced Tupac's Movie to be released in November "All Eyes On Me" and she was the president of Amaru Records which released all Tupac's unreleased songs having won the legal battle to do so from Deathrow Records. Mrs Shakur is survived by another child she had after Tupac, Sekyiwa Shakur.
