The remains of former Governor of Bayelsa state Chief Dimipriye Solomon Peter Alamieyesegha was committed to mother earth today 9th April 2016 in Amassoma Bayelsa state. Dignitaries present at the burial programmes which started yesterday Friday 8th April with lying in state and special tribute event at Yenagoa was organised by the state Government for the Governor General of the Niger Delta as he was called were former President Goodluck Jonathan, his wife Patience Jonathan, People Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Alhaji Alimodu Sheriff, former acting Chairman of the Party Chief Uche Secondus, Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce and other dignitaries.

Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha was the Governor of the state when Goodluck Jonathan the former President was his Deputy between 1999 and 2005 when Alamieyesiegha was controversially impeached for Corruption allegations against him by the state house of Assembly on 9th December 2005.
The late governor general's burial rites paralysed commercial activities in the state, especially in Yenagoa, the state capital and Amassoma, the late politician’s hometown. Shops, markets and schools were shut in the state capital as a mark of respect for the Ijaw leader as the body of the ex-governor arrived Yenagoa yesterday from the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital and was moved to his home town today for interment.
Ex President Goodluck Jonathan, who spoke at the event in Yenagoa said Alamieyeseigha, described as the Governor-General of the Ijaw Nation, was a man who believed in the oneness of the Ijaw people. He praised the role played by DSP Alamieyeseigha in his lifetime as a politician, the ex-president stated that Alamieyeseigha was his boss. In his words Jonathan said “The man that made me, that I used to call my boss is gone. A man that believed in the true oneness of the Ijaw people and Nigeria is gone. He left the stage when the ovation was loudest,”
Chief DSP Alamieyesegha died about six months ago on 10th October 2015 following a rumoured attempt by the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to re arrest him for questioning.
