Boko Haram Group Demand $50m Ransom For Chibok Girls Release- Uk Newspaper

The dreaded terrorist group Boko Haram has allegedely asked for ransome of about $50m from the Federal Government of Nigeria to free the abducted of over 200 Chibok girls who were abduscted by the terorst sect  in Borno state in April 2014 according to latest report credited to The Sunday Telegraph of London.  According to the the Uk based Newspaper outfit, it gathered from the close sources to the terrorist group, the demand was made during secret contacts with the government of president Muhammadu Buhari who said it was willing to negotiate with the group in a bid to secure the release of the abducted 219 school girls.

Abubakar Shekau, the self acclaimed Boko Haram leader some months back had demanded for the release of jailed members of the group by the federal Government and security agencies in exchange for the Chibok girls in a video he purportedly sent to the Government in which the previous administration of President Goodluck Jonathan turned down that it will never negotiate with a terrorist group.

Although top security sources and the presidency denied any dealings or secret negotiations between the federal government and the sect on the release of the Chibok girls. The Bring back our Girls Group BBOG a nongovernmental group headed by the former minister of education Mrs Oby Ezekwesili  has been campaigning for the release of the girls who were kidnapped on 14th April 2014 said the group is not satisfied with the way the federal government is playing politics with the rescue mission of the girls as constant rhetoric and unacceptable way the  government has been handing the issue by saying they have no intelligence report and other excuses on the fate of the girls. The group said it expects more proactive actions and effort from the government as the second anniversary of the abduction of the girls draws closer.

The Sunday telegraph in its report said the Boko Haram terrorist group who has claimed thousands of lives since its inception in 2011 allegedly demanded for the ransome in a message sent to the federal government about three months ago.  According to the paper it offered to exchange the abducted girls for N10billion an equivalent of 50million dollars or 36million Pounds. This ransome demand according to the newspaper has split the government as some think it would be worth it just to resolve the Chibok girls situation but others say it will only allow Boko Haram more resources and capacity to recruit  more people especially when the war against the insurgent is recording victories as they are being dislodged from their territories and enclaves in sambisa forest in Borno state.

Meanwhile the presidency has said that Presdient Muhammadu Buhari will not engage in any back door deal with the insurgents noting that the federal government is winning the war against the terrorist group and so would not be forced to engage in any negotiations with the group especially at the time when the capacity of the group has been largely decimated the military and security agencies fighting the dreaded group.
