Is Our President’s Aisha Buhari The Same Aisha Buhari In The William Jefferson Bribery Scandal Case?

The allegations  made by Ekiti state governor Ayo Fayose  aide, Mr Olayinka Lere over Mrs Aisha Muhammadu Buhari’s  involvement in the bribery scandal involving Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, a US Congress man William Jefferson, One Mr Kachikwu and Aisha Buhari some years back as being the incumbent first lady of the federal republic of Nigeria. in a swift response to his frozen personal account with Zenith Bank by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over being one of the beneficiaries of Dasuki gate in which 2.1 bilion dollars meant for arms deal was alleged to have been shared by Col. Sambo Dasuki into various accounts belonging to top Peoples Democratic Party PDP members include chief Raymond Dokpesi, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, Olisa Metuh and other top military echelon in the last administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.

In a counter allegation of his account being a beneficiary of 1.2 bilion naira allegedly from the Office of the National Security Adviser to the former president. The governors aide stated that President too is not a saint as claimed because his wife Mrs Aisha M. Buhari’s name was mentioned in the bribery scandal displaying a court statement in which one Aisha Buhari was conspicuously named as one of the accused.

The presidency has however  disown the Aisha Buhari been circulated by the Fayose camp as the first lady noting that there is another Aisha Buhari that was involved in the scandal and not President Muhammdau Buhari’s Aisha.  The president aide denied the allegation saying the Aisha Buhari mentioned in the document presented by the United States Jusice Department has no relationship with President Muhammadu Buhari neither is she the daughter of the President has claimed by the woman in question. In addition to this the passport data page of the accused Aisha Buhari was displayed on social media and the identity of the woman publicise the face and details of the woman.

The many questions on the lips of Nigerians and followers of the allegations is, do we have another Aisha Muhammadu Buhari  who claims to be the daughter of ex military head of state and the only ex military head of state in Nigeria is General Muhammadu Buhari. Could it be that the presidency quickly rushed to produce a passport or another identity of someone as Aisha. Could the allegations brought up by Fayose’s camp that it is the sole reason why the first lady Mrs Aisha M. Buhari cannot step foot in the United States having sent Mrs Toyin Bukola- Saraki wife of the Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki to the US when she was supposed to personally attend a congress for wives of head states in the united states last year. The image shown on the data page presented both on the passport and the picture of the alleged woman pictured in the scandal report posted by New York Times are not in any way a resemblance of the first lady.

It was reported that the United States Justice Department specifically informed EFCC to follow up on the investigation on the scandal and giving them the clues to on the investigation, the anti graft agency never carried out further investigation on the identity or the involvement of names mentioned in the document since 2007 till date. Could there be a conspiracy theory as to why the EFCC has not concluded or even began investigations on the matter.

When the then General Muhammadu Buhari was asked when the report became public, Buhari said “I don’t have any daughter called Aisha Buhari living outside Nigeria, she is not my daughter.”  The former chairman of the economic and financial crime commission EFCC Mr Nuhu Ribadu has asked United states authorities to arrest and prosecute Aisha Buhari it never happenedeven though it was known that the Justice Department has an interest in her. The Aisha Buhari even testified before a court against Mr. Jefferson the congress man who was accused of soliciting bribes from companies who wanted to carry out businesses with Nigeria. It was suspected that Aisha Buhari served as a financial conduit for the American politician Mr. William Jefferson. The Aisha Buhari under investigation in United States, according New York Times is a Nigerian living in Virginia in US but was being investigated by Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Nigeria Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is in no way the same Mrs. Aisha Buhari Nigerias first lady and the wife of the president, Muhammadu Buhari.

It is a developing story and and interesting one for that matter as it concerns the Presidency and the EFCC especially when the President is known to be aggressively fighting corruption on all fronts. A cash involving Nigerias image at the international scene should have been seriously tackled and perpetrators brought to book to give Nigeria a good image. Will the accusation be swept under the carpet or made to drag on for only God knows when as it was done during the Presidents Umaru Musa Yar Adua and Goodluck Jonathan administrations. Nigerians are eagerly waiting to clear our first lady’s name from this mess except of course we would have to believe the Ayo Fayose camp’s claim.
